Mineralization Comments

Mar 11, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - Talbot (1996b) described the rocks in the vicinity of this occurrence (Wapamisk Creek area) as consisting of a sequence of tholeiitic to calc-alkaline mafic to felsic metavolcanics, chemical metasediments and water lain pyroclastic rocks of a sequence referred to as the Wapamisk Domain (i.e., Wapamisk assemblage of Thurston, Osmani and Stone 1991). The chemical metasedimentary rocks of this area are dominated by oxide facies iron formations, which include two major geophysically-inferred units. The iron formations are typically associated with clastic metasedimentary rocks including mudstone, argillite, siltstone and greywacke. The stratigraphy and foliation of the area generally strike east (Talbot 1996b). Major structures include isoclinal folds with east-striking axial planes and later regional-scale northwest- and northeast-striking faults (Talbot 1996b). This occurrence is based on the reported occurrence of anomalous copper mineralization in metasedimentary rocks intersected by Placer Dome Canada diamond drill hole number 524-002. Talbot (1996b) reports that the highest metal values were found in graphitic argillite, with the most notable assays including 2787 ppm Cu over 0.61 m, 2974 ppm Zn over 1.0 m, and 3.2 ppm Ag over 0.61 m. The occurrence-grade copper assay was obtained from a unit of brecciated argillite mineralized with 2.5% pervasive chlorite, 1% calcite veins, 7.5% patchy quartz flooding, 20% interstitial pyrrhotite, 0.25% blebby chalcopyrite and a trace of arsenopyrite. The mineralization at this location is similar to that reported at Placer Dome Canada diamond drill hole 524-009.
