Mineralization Comments

03/17/2008 (M A Puumala) - The Santa Maria Area 1 occurrence is located near the southern boundary of the North Caribou greenstone belt. The area is reported by Huston and Timoshenko (1988) to be underlain by two main supracrustal rock units. These include the predominantly mafic to ultramafic metavolcanic rocks of the Opapimiskan unit of the McGruer assemblage and the clastic metasedimentary Zeemel-Heaton assemblage (Thurston, Osmani and Stone 1991). Stratigraphy and foliation in the area generally strike east (Huston and Timoshenko 1988). Anomalous gold assays were reported from two Santa Maria Resources diamond drill holes (SMZ-87-3 and 4) that were advanced at this location to test geophysical anomalies that had been interpreted to represent structures and/or lithologies with the potential to host gold mineralization (Huston and Timoshenko 1988). Drill hole SMZ-87-3 was reported to have intersected 1.25 m of mafic metavolcanic rocks containing minor quartz carbonate stringers with trace pyrrhotite that assayed 0.54 oz/ton Au. Drill hole SMZ-87-4 encountered felsic metavolcanics mineralized with trace pyrite that assayed 0.015 oz/ton Au over 2.13 m. This mineralized zone is located immediately north of a northwest striking fault that is illustrated in MRD126-REVISED (Ontario Geological Survey 2006).
