Mineralization Comments

Mar 19, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - Newman (1987) indicated that this occurrence is hosted in a large outcrop exposure of moderately-deformed, heavily-gossaned banded iron formation. The mineralized iron formation is hosted in a mafic metavolcanic rock-dominated sequence that has been assigned to the South Rim unit of the McGruer assemblage by Thurston, Osmani and Stone (1991). Clastic metasedimentary rocks of the Eyapamikama assemblage have been mapped by Newman (1987) approximately 150 m to the east of the occurrence. The most significant assay obtained from this zone was a grab sample result of 790 ppb Au from a gossan zone oriented parallel to an axial planar fracture cleavage in an area of intense folding (Newman 1987). The axial planar cleavage at this location strikes approximately 330, oblique to the general trend of stratigraphic layering, which strikes 350. Regionally, stratigraphy and foliation are subparallel, with an average strike of 325 and steep westerly dips ranging from 75 to 85 degrees (Newman 1987).
