Jul 27, 2022 (Q Unknown) - The area is underlain by felsic intrusion rocks associated with the Irene - Eltrut Lakes Batholithic Complex . This part of the complex has not been examined by industry or government geologists. Porphyritic granite, granodiorite and diorite are the main rock types. Foliation of the granodiorite and diorite is approximately 314/90°. All rocks have been fractured and intruded by felsic dikes and quartz veins. Three district fracture patterns were observed in exposures. The oldest fracture (F1) trends 300/84°N. Narrow white - grey quartz veins occur within this fracture. A later, more prominent, fracture (F2) trending 050/80°E overprints the first set of fracture. The width of quartz veins in the F2 fracture range from one to ten centimetres. The F2 fractures are cut and right-laterally right laterally offset by the youngest fractures (F3). These F3 fractures trend 320/70°S and are sub-parallel to the F1 fractures. The felsic intrusive rocks adjacent to these F3 fractures show evidence of one to six centimetre wide, moderate strain zones. These strained rocks do not contain quartz but show evidence of iron-staining. These F3 fractures are the least prominent of the three fracture patterns in the area. Fine-grained disseminated sulphides are present in the granodiorite and diorite associated with this mineralized zone. Iron-staining is present on the weathered surfaces of these intrusive rocks. The actual width of the mineralized zone is unknown because portions of the exposure were removed during highway construction. A zone containing several parallel trending quartz veins was examined. These quartz veins are parallel to the trend of the F2 fractures. The highest concentration of molybdenum is located along the fracture surfaces of a 6 cm wide, 050/60°E trending quartz vein. The mineralization can be traced along trend for approximately 2 metres. Molybdenum flakes associated with the quartz veins and fracture surface of veins are fine-to-coarse grained. Molybdenum flakes can range up to 3cm in size. (OFR6180, p.17) A total of 26 samples were collected and analysed for a suite of metals as part of the 2005 prospecting program. Molybdenum analyses ranged from a high of greater than 8000 ppm to less than 10 ppm, with average crustal abundance of molybdenum for the rock types encountered in the sampling program of 2 ppm as published by Levinson. Approximately 38% of the samples returned molybdenum values of 10 ppm or less. 38% of analyses ranged from 11 to 100 ppm, with the remaining 24% returning molybdenum values greater than 100 ppm. The analytical data, as well as field observations related to alteration, mineralization, etc. are tabulated in Appendix B.
