Jul 07, 2015 (A Wilson) - The Broken Hammer Zone is located in the North Range Footwall of the Sudbury Basin. Trenching and overburden stripping has exposed Sudbury Breccia in gneissic quartz monzonite with meta-sedimentary, diabase and amphibolite clasts and xenoliths. Gabbro and pyroxenite outcrops in the western portion of the stripped area. Massive and stringer sulphide veins are associated with Sudbury Breccia and cut the hosting quartz-monzonite. The Chisel Creek fault is a northerly striking, shallowly east-dipping fault zone that bisects the deposit. The trend of the Chisel Creek fault is a topographic low occupied by a creek and series of beaver ponds. Displacement across this fault is thought to be post-ore, comprising a modest rotation and possibly some translation. The orientation of veins is observed to change by about 30° across the fault plane. The intersection of principal fracture sets plunges at 248°/-35 above the fault and 215°/-45 below it.

Jul 07, 2015 (A Wilson) - In 2004, the Broken Hammer zone was traced by drilling over a strike length of approximately 200 metres and to a depth of approximately 75 metres. The mineralization consists of a zone of disseminated and stringer chalcopyrite (copper sulphide), trace millerite with local lenses and veins of massive chalcopyrite, with minor millerite. The mineralization is enriched in platinum palladium and gold, and contains a number of different platinum and palladium minerals including machineries (Pd, Pt) Bite, merenskyite (Pd,Pt)(Te,Bi)2, volynskite AgBiTe2, sperrylite PtAs2 and an unknown copper-palladium-bismuth sulphide mineral. Prior to mining exceptional sperrylite crystal specimens were collected by a professional mineral collector.
