Lithology Comments

Feb 17, 2011 (A Wilson) - Multiple intersections of kimberlite, kimberlitic breccia and diatreme breccia were intersected in both drill holes. The drill hole ended in kimberlite with an intersection of 58.49 m. The kimberlite is variously described as having a dull reddish fine-grained matrix containing irregular inclusion with thick kelphytic rims. Pelletal textures were observed between 74.25 and 83.91 m. Diatreme autobreccia forms approximately 1/3 of the kimberlite intersected in the two drill holes. The mafic metavolcanic rocks are typically hornfelsed and blocky in appearance. Some mafic metavolcanics are noticeably talcose. Three distinct host rock lithologies were mapped in DDH DGN-10-02: pillowed basalts, interflow tuffs and chemical metasediments.
