Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Wabigoon

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Mar 04, 2011 (C Ravnaas) - The occurrence falls within the 2.7 Ga Rainy River Greenstone Belt which forms part of the Wabigoon Subprovince. The occurrence is centered on Richardson Township. To the north of Richardson Township lies the Sabaskong granitoid batholith. The Black Hawk Stock lies to the East of Richardson Township. A package of metasedimentary rock is found south of Richardson Township. Wedged in between these lithologies are a conformable series of tholeiitic mafic and overlying calc-alkalic intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks, striking almost east-west and dipping to the south. Intermediate rocks (dacites) host most of the Rainy River gold mineralization. Reference: Mineral Resource Estimate Technical Report completed by SRK Consulting for Rainy River Resources July 2009.

Jan 21, 2015 (Therese Pettigrew) - A WNW-ESE trending belt of greenschist facies, supracrustal rocks forms the core of the Rainy River Gold District. This belt is composed of metavolcanic rocks, metamorphosed hypabyssal intrusive rocks and metasedimentary units including both clastic and chemical type packages. This district to regional scale rock package dips steeply south at approximately 60 degrees. This district scale, lithologically complex sequence is bounded to the north by an upper amphibolite grade meta-igneous terrane and to the south by granulite facies igneous and metasedimentary gneisses. This belt of greenschist-grade supracrustal rock is widely foliated, micro-folded and sheared. The WNW-ENE trending, south dipping sequence of supracrustal rocks in known core of the Rainy River gold district is bent sharply to the NNE in a position approximately 300 metres south of the south boundary of the B Block. The NNE trend of the belt then passes through the B Block and then into the Off Lake area to the east of Highway 71. To the west, the supracrustal rock package is deformed and truncated along the Pinewood fault in position near Deerlock. Distinctive, cross cutting, felsic intrusions into the greenstone belt are known from both OGS field mapping and from drill intercepts. Two, N-S elongate, granodiorite intrusions occur east of the Burns Block, the Black Hawk and Finland stocks. These stocks are likely the cause of Kspar-Magnetite alteration in 0.5 to 1 kilometer haloes in the surrounding greenstones wall rocks. At present, the cumulative exploration by Nuinsco, Rainy River Resources and Bayfield Ventures has resulted in the identification of numerous well gold-silver mineralized positions along approximately 5.0 kilometres of the deformed WNW-ESE to NNE-SSW trending, greenschist facies, supracrustal rock package (Bayfield 2014 NI 43-101).

Lithology Comments

Mar 04, 2011 (C Ravnaas) - Mineralization on "B" claim block was encountered in felsic pyroclastics flanking a strong north-south trending growth fault on the property. The fault is the most easterly of a series of north-south trending faults in the area. A number of distinct pebbly pyroclastic units abut this fault and trend off to the southwest (Bayfield Ventures Corp., press release, December 10, 2008).

Mineralization Comments

Feb 26, 2014 (C Ravnaas) - Strongly elevated gold values have been encountered along this fault and significant gold values were obtained in Bayfield's hole RR08-2 intersected 5.7 grams per tonne gold over 2 m in pyroclastic units abutting the fault. The intercept in RR08-2 was within a 20 m thick zone with elevated to strongly anomalous gold values. All 4 holes encountered wide sections of elevated to strongly anomalous gold values. All gold values are typically associated with sulfides and elevated zinc values. Hole RR08-1 encountered elevated to strongly anomalous gold values of 200 ppb to 1900 ppb Au over 38.8 m from 92 m to 130.8 m, including 1.95 g/t Au over 1 m from 99.7 m to 100.7 m. Hole RR08-2 encountered elevated to strongly anomalous gold values over a 21 m intersection from 251 m to 272 m including 5.7 g/t Au (.17 oz/t Au) over 2 m from 257 m to 259 m. Hole RR08-3 encountered elevated to strongly anomalous gold values from 177 m to 188 m. All assay results from (Bayfield Ventures Corp., press release, December 10, 2008 2012: Bayfield Ventures - Hole B12-6 assayed 0.44 g/t Au over 27.95 m.

Jan 21, 2015 (Therese Pettigrew) - Bayfield had encouraging results from their initial 2007 drill program, including a 3.3 m interval grading 15.35 g/t Au in hole R7B-7. Drilling in 2008-2013 resulted in the recognition of the existence of an approx. 200 x 100 m area in the SW portion of the property with fairly consistent Au-Ag-Zn-Cu-Pb mineralization over widths ranging from 15 to 77 m. The limits of this mineralized zone have not been defined, either horizontally or vertically. The Au-Ag-Zn-Cu intervals and zones at Bayfield’s B Block are dominantly contained within vertically dipping, well foliated quartz eye dacite units. Pervasive sericite-silica alteration occurs within the foliated and mineralized intervals. No visible gold or silver has been noted during core logging at B Block. Precious metal - base metal mineralization occurs in two distinctive styles on the property: 1) Disseminated Style: Long down hole intervals, up to 76 m, of silica-sericite altered dacite with disseminated yellow/orange sphalerite have intersected in holes RR12-6 and RR13-1. These intervals contain local galena and chalcopyrite clots and rare stringer veinlets. A 76.0 m downhole interval of this style on mineralization intersected in RR13-1 carries 0.26 g/t AuEq and 0.28% Zn. A lower 15 m downhole interval in RR13-1 carries 0.66 g/t AuEq accompanied by 0.61% Zn and 0.30% Cu; 2) Stringer Veinlet Style: Metre to multi-metre scale zones with well-developed orange/brown sphalerite stringer mineralization occur in holes R7B-7, RR08-2, B12-5 and B13-4. These intervals have stronger precious metal mineralization than the disseminated style intervals. Hole RR08-2 retuned an 8.0 m interval assaying 1.76 g/t AuEq including 2.0 m of 5.84 g/t AuEq; 3) Massive Style: Massive pyrite-pyrrhotite breccias occur in the northern portion of the property. These are spatially related to argillite units and are likely of syngenetic origin. These massive sulfide zones are essentially barren of precious metals (Bayfield 2014 NI 43-101).
