Resident Geologist District: Timmins
NTS Grid: 41O15SW
Point Location Description: 1.5 km northwest of Vice Lake, small prospector trench blasted in outcrop
Location Method: Field Visit with GPS
Access Description: The southeast part of the Swayze greenstone belt is easily accessible with recently constructed logging roads. Access is gained by way of the Foleyet timber road that leads south from Hwy 101 east of Foleyet or by the Sultan industrial road that links Hwy 144 between Timmins and Sudbury to Hwy 129 south of Chapleau.
No early accounts of the exploration history of the occurrence are known but the area was probably prospected as a result of the discovery of the Halcrow-Swayze Mine that is located 2 km to the southwest and the Lyall-Beidelman occurrence located 1 km to the northwest. A blasted prospector trench of unknown vintage is evidence of previous exploration interest in the area. Melrose Resources Limited flew low attitude helicopter borne magnetic, electromagnetic and VLF-EM surveys over the area in 1984. Line spacing was 100 m, aircraft height was 60 m, the magnetometer was 13.7 m below the aircraft and the EM bird was at an elevation of 30 m. The survey identifed a northwest trending weak magnetic response in the vicinity of the sedimentary rocks that outcrop at the showing and several isolated electromagnetic conductors were detected but these don't correlate with the magnetic patterns. The VLF_EM response show a similar northwest trend but is not definitive.(T2920). In 1992, W. Troup and B. Otton did reconnaissance geological mapping, prospecting and humus and lake sampling. Two stream sediment samples collected down ice from magnetic anomalies were analyzed for diamond indicator minerals. No significant results were reported in any of the sampling. (T3878).

Mar 31, 2011 (B Atkinson) - Gold occurs associated with quartz veins in strongly deformed conglomerates. The presence of granitic clasts suggests the conglomerates are Timiskaming.
