Exploration History

1902: The North Coldstream deposit first began production in 1902 as the Tip-Top Mine. Approximately 1 312 000 lbs of copper were produced in between 1902 and 1917. 1943: Frobisher Exploration Company completed extensive exploration in the area of the North Coldstream Mine and in 1943 the company estimated at least a million tons of ore in the ground. 1950’s and early 1960: Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Ltd., Martin McNelly Mines Exploration and Canico, conducted geophysical surveys. 1957: Coldstream Copper Mines Ltd, later known as North Coldstream Mines, purchased the mine and began operations in June. 1960-67: Noranda operated the mine producing 103 million pounds of copper, 22,000 ounces of gold, and 440,000 ounces of silver from 2.7 million tonnes of ore. Reserves were depleted and the mine was closed in 1967. In the Span Lake Area: 1982: Canico carried out airborne electromagnetic, magnetic and radiometric surveys with follow-up prospecting program. 1983: Canico undertook grid cutting, VLF and magnetometer surveys were completed with a geological reconnaissance and rock-sampling program. 1987-90: Inco prospecting, mapping, trenching, and diamond drilling identifing 9 gold zones, termed from A through I. Eight DDH (1 225m) in 1987, 18 DDH (3 407 m) and 13 DDH (2 132 m) in 1989. 1990: Central Crude Ltd (“Central Crude”) optioned Inco¿s claims over the Span Lake with Noranda the operator. 2006: Alto Ventures purchased 26 claims covering the Span Lake area from Inco Ltd. 2009: Foundation Resources Inc. focused on confirming some of the better Inco channel samples at the A, B and C Zones with some channel sampling. 2010: A 38-hole, 10 107 m drill program was completed by Foundation of which two-holes, SL10-01 and SL10-TW, drilled 377 m testing the Span lake showing.
