Point Location Description: Located using Google Earth. East of Ruby Lake.

Location Method: data compilation

Access Description: Located south of Highway 17. First turn east of the Nipigon Bridge. Follow logging road to the gate.

Exploration and Mining History

Prior to 1996 a logging road accessed the area and turned up the marble. In 1997 claims were registered to Don MacAlpine and trenching was conducted in 1997/1998. 2000-1: Ruby Lake Marble Ltd. conducted stripping, trenching and mapping. 2002: production and shipping of marble was severely curtailed due to reduced demand.

Geology Comments

04/28/2011 (N Bennett) - The unit is metamorposed by overlying diabase. The dolomite has some areas with high silicate contents. The site may be classified in general terms as a softer, dolomitic marble.

10/11/2017 (T Pettigrew) - This marble consists of metamorphosed, Mesoproterozoic, Rossport Formation (Sibley Group) dolostone and other calcareous sedimentary rocks in the contact metamorphic aureole of Keweenawan diabase sills (Schnieders et al., 1999).
