Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Gneiss-Unsubdivided 1 Hornblende-Plagioclase Contains
Feldspathic Wacke 2 Feldspathic Arenite Host
Granite 3 Granite Intrudes
Syenite 4 Syenite Intrudes
Anorthosite 5 Intrudes

Lithology Comments

Jun 02, 2011 (A Wilson) - A long sinuous band of gneiss is included within metamorphosed feldspathic arenite. Both are cut by pegmatitic granite and coarse syenite dikes, some of which are 25 feet wide. Ore-grade mineralization is found in the arenite. The arenite is gently folded and the fold axis plunges at 30° and trends S23W. Shearing was observed in the northern part of the deposit and is characterized by non-coherent hornblende-plagioclase gneiss containing lenses of unsheared rock.

Mineralization Comments

Jun 02, 2011 (A Wilson) - A grab sample collected from the ore dump by the OGS in 1978, returned 44.2% Fe (tot), 42.5% Fe (sol), 20.8% FeO, 1.84% TiO2, 0.14% P2O5, <0.01% S, 0.12% Mn and 0.11% V. Mineralization consists of fine-grained magnetite occurring as disseminated-to-massive layers within amphibolite. The mineralization is completely conformable within the amphibolite.
