Exploration and Mining History

1887: The promotors of the Vulcan property submitted a sample to the laboratory of the Geological Survey of Canada. 1890: The Weekly Sentinel (January 3, 1890) reported that the property was formerly known as the Vulcan Mining Location and was recently acquired by Gravel Bay Mining Co.

Mineralization Comments

07/25/2019 (T Pettigrew) - A sample weighing 1 1/4 oz. taken from a 18" wide quartz vein contained coarsely crystalline galena in a gangue of quartz and returned: Au: none, Ag: 1.094 oz/ton. The sample was submitted by Mr. Hugh Wilson (from GSC 1887-88, vol.3, part 2, p. 32T). Hugh Wilson was one of the five promotors of the Vulcan property (The Engineering and Mining Journal, Jan. 11, 1890, p. 69). The Weekly Sentinel (January 3, 1890) reported an assay carried by the Gravel Bay Mining Company which returned 60% Pb and a "rich percentage of gold and silver".
