Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship

Lithology Comments

Feb 14, 2013 (A Wilson) - Mafic to intermediate diatextitic gneisses consist mainly of biotite-garnet amphibolite gneisses with more than 20% leucosome. Some outcrops of unit 21 contain less migmatized ovoid pods, between 50 and 500 cm in size, of either mafic gneiss; or pods of rusty-weathering metawacke or meta-arenite. The origin of these pod-bearing zones is unknown. They could represent recrystallized and migmatized shear zones or extremely boudinaged layers of rock units that were more resistant to partial melting.
