Mineralization Comments

Jun 11, 2014 (Mark Puumala) - During a 2009-10 exploration program, Sparton Resources Inc. identified anomalous gold mineralization (i.e., samples assaying >0.5 g/t Au) on their West Hammond Contact property in a northeast-trending mineralized zone that covers a strike length of 2.3 km. Work that was carried out on this zone included the collection of bedrock grab samples, trenching, channel sampling, soil sampling surveys, ground geophysical surveys and diamond drilling (12 holes for 2631 m). The original gold discovery was made at a surface showing known as the Stubby Zone. The mineralized corridor consists of sheared mafic metavolcanic rocks, granite and gabbro that are variably sericitized, chloritized and ankeritized, and are accompanied by pyrite and variable quartz +/- ankerite veins and veinlets (AFRO 2.45112).

Site Visit Information

Date: Sep 26, 2013

Geologist: Mark Puumala

Notes: Two stripped outcrop areas (Stubby and 3N trenches) that were explored by Sparton Resouces during 2009 were visited by Resident Geologist Program staff on September 26, 2013. The Stubby Zone is a stripped outcrop area located at UTM Zone 15, 601572E, 5413685N. The rocks at this location consist of sheared and carbonatized granitoid rocks of the Marmion Batholith that are inter-fingered with sheared and altered mafic rocks. Visible gold is reported to have been found at this location, with grab sample assay results of up to 48 g/t Au (AFRO 2.45112). The 3N trench is located approximately 1 km southwest of the Stubby Zone trench. This trench exposes a variably altered and sheared feldspar porphyritic intrusion. Foliation strikes between 20 and 30 degrees with near-vertical dip. Grab samples were collected from two zones, located near the eastern (Sample MP-STU-13-01: UTM Zone 15, 600892E, 5412886N) and western (Sample MP-STU-13-02: UTM Zone 15, 600864E 5412891N) ends of the trench, that exhibit strong shearing and alteration. Alteration in the zone near the east end of the trench includes silicification, iron carbonate and chloritization, while alteration in the zone near the west end of the trench, where the host rocks are more felsic in composition, includes iron carbonate and silicification. The sampled shear zones both contain disseminated sulphide and numerous anastomosing quartz stringers. Assay values for the two samples were 68 and 174 ppb Au (Resident Geologist’s Files, Thunder Bay South).
