Oct 16, 2014 (Mark Puumala) - The following is excerpted from the site visit notes of Sarvas and O’Brien (1986). The bedrock underlying this property consists of coarse-grained, massive to weakly foliated granites, paragneisses and migmatites. The rocks are comprised mainly of pink to white alkali feldspar, quartz and dark green amphibole. Crystal size ranges from less than 0.3 cm up to 3.0 cm in diameter. Discontinuous gneissic and magmatic banding is commonly observed. In two locations, a number of dilation veins are observed cross-cutting the gneissic rocks. The veins display two general orientations: 60-90 degrees and 110-90 degrees. The veins are up to 0.5 metres wide; they appear to be discontinuous and of highly variable width. The veins consist mainly of white, smokey and amethystine quartz. Near the wallrock contact, numerous brecciated fragments of country rock are incorporated into the vein. Some of these fragments appear to be partly assimilated. The granitic wallrock and brecciated fragments commonly contain chloritic streaks.
