Location Method: Based on Assessment
Access Description: Access is easy as the Penhorwood Main Haul road which branches of the Kenogaming Main Haul road crosses the iron formation.
1946 Reconnaissance geological mapping by Kalbrook Mining (Penko) over the area did not report any outcrop in the vicinity of the showing. 1956 Canadian Johns Manville geologically mapped the iron formation and the area was covered with magnetic survey during the course of an asbestos exploration program. This work was followed up with a six hole diamond drill program (860m), which intersected pyritic iron formations in several holes. 1959 Kukatush Mining commissioned a magnetic survey over the iron formation in their search for iron ore. This was followed by a diamond drill program which consisted of 14 holes drilled over a seven year period, six in three sections. From composite samples taken from the drill core grade estimates were made which averaged 29% total iron. Mar 15, 2016 (P Bousquet) - The drill hole NR98-6 intersected a grey chert pyrrhotite iron formation overlying a mafic dyke. Although the company drilling the hole was looking for gold, it had ICP-MS analysis for the samples. The returned assays were > 15% iron and >10000 ppm (1%) for manganese. The apparent thickness for that section is 14.8 metres (T-4067).
