Access Description: To access the site, proceed 8.3 km north from the junction of highways 11 and 572 to a farm driveway. The site is 75m west of the house. The shaft is approximately 2 m deep and has been backfilled with muck.

Exploration History

1919: R.S. Potter and G.W. Quinn were reported to have owned the south half of lot 13, concession 3, Hislop Township; pit excavation on quartz vein. 1922-1923: Hislop Mining Syndicate - 80 ft shaft on S½ Lot 13 Con 3. 1981-82: Asarco Exploration Co. of Canada Ltd.- OVBD-3-270 ft. 1986-88: G. Mullen- property staked; property optioned by Pelangio-Larder Gold Mines Ltd.; magnetic and VLF-EM surveys completed, geological mapping. 1987: Resont Resources Corporation - geological mapping, magnetometer and VLF-EM surveys..1988: Cross Lake Minerals Ltd. - geological survey. 1988: Guy Thibault Exploration Services - ground geophysics.

Geology Comments

Apr 18, 2016 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock underlying the Potter-Quinn occurrence is largely glacial drift covered and consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) tholeiitic basalt of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. East of the shaft, limited bedrock exposure suggests the Kinojevis stratigraphy to be northeast striking. Generally, the bedrock stratigraphy in the area is steeply dipping, south facing and occupies part of the north limb of the east striking and east plunging Blake River Synclinorium. Narrow porphyritic felsic (hornblende syenitic dikes intrude the Kinojevis Group basalt in the shaft area, as do narrow (tens of metres in width) north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 18, 2016 (A Wilson) - The best assays from the Pelangio-Larder drilling returned values of 285 ppb and 344 ppb Au.

Apr 18, 2016 (C Salo) - In an unpublished report written by G. Mullen, geophysicist,, the 80 foot deep Hislop Mining Syndicate shaft is reported to be sunk on an east striking shear developed in basalt. A selected grab sample obtained by Mr. Mullan from a rock dump adjacent to the shaft is reported by him to have consisted of an intensely fractured jasperlitic andesite containing quartz-carbonate veinlets and abundant sulfide minerals. This sample is reported by Mr. Mullen to have assayed 65 ppm of gold and less than 1 ppb each of platinum and palladium. Quartz-carbonate veins are also reported by Mr. Mullen to occur elsewhere on the property, and these are reported by him to be variably mineralized with chalcopyrite, pyrite, galena, and pyrrhotite. Visible gold is reported to occur in the quartz vein on which the shaft was sunk, an observation supported by the anomalously auriferous (averaging 65 ppm of gold) dump sample obtained by Mr. Mullen.
