Exploration History

Since 1934 the Bylund, West and Godzik occurrences have been the principal targets starting with Matawin Gold Mines and Getty Mines. The "West Occurrence", approximately 1.6 kilometres southwest of the Goldie - Main Zone, was trenched and drilled in 1936 by Freeport Exploration Co. as well as being examined and sampled by Matawin Gold Mines during the period from 1946-1950. Cliffs of Canada completed a geophysical survey in 1966 and Noranda Mines Ltd. carried out mapping and geophysical surveys in 1970. The "Godzik Occurrence" is located 2 kilometres east-southeast of the Main Zone was trenched in 1984 and drilled in 1990 by Allan J. Wing. 1995: The Stares brothers prospected and staked the Goldie property for Hemlo Gold Mines. Hemlo Gold Mines Ltd completed 33 kilometres of linecuttingprospecting, handstripping and collected a combined total of 1100 humus and "B" horizon soil samples. Hemlo Gold Mines chages its name to Battle Mountain Canada. 1996: Battle Mountain conducted induced polarization and magnetometer survey, geological mapping and channel sampling of a number of bedrock exposures. 1997: Battle Mountain Canada completed an eleven hole drill program totaling 1265 m. Battle Mountain dropped its option on the property. 1998: Freewest Resources expanded upon exisiting trenches, re-established the ground grid, reprocessed the magnetic and IP data, completed a 117 hole Sonic soil sampling program and an 82 sample humus survey. 1999: Mick Stares completed two drill holes via an OPAP grant for a total of 262 m. 2002: RJK/Greater Lenora Resources optioned the property.and completed three drill holes totaling 283 m. 2006: A dipole-dipole Ip survey totaling 45.6 line-km along 37 grid lines was completed. 2007: RJK completed a 16 hole drill program totaling 2332 m.
