Geology Comments

Jun 22, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - Quetico migmatites and gneisses underlie the property.

Lithology Comments

Jun 22, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - Quetico Belt migmatites and gneisses underlie the property. White, albite-rich pegmatite dikes up to 30 m wide intrude granitic gneisses and sedimentary migmatites. Some of these pegmatites have a yellow to yellow-green stain typical of uraniferous albite pegmatites of the area.

Mineralization Comments

Jun 22, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - A news article in the May 16, 1949 edition of the Lakehead Cities News Chronicle report that T.A. Gustafson had the following assays from his samples: Sample 1: 5.5% U3O8, Sample 2: 0.009% U3O8, Sample 3: 0.025% U3O8. Gustafson reported that the three samples had been taken from 16 claims he had staked on the east side of Lake Helen, approximately 5 miles from Nipigon. The samples came from test pits 1000 feet apart. In an Oct 12, 1949 news article in the Lakehead Cities News Chronicle, the occurrence is described as a 1/4 inch thick seam of pitchblende and calcite. Work on this property by Aggressive Mining Limited in 1967 consisted of trenching and sampling of the occurrence. Values of up to 0.135% U3O8 were reported. A visit by JF Scott of the Resident Geologist Program in 1982 confirmed the existence of a 2 m x 2 m x 26 m trench located in a rectangular, stripped area on the lake's west shore. This area is distinguishable from Highway 11 on the lake's east shore. A plot of counts per minute due to uranium, thorium, and total counts indicates that the uranium is associated with the pegmatite phases rather than the biotite schists and metasedimentary portions of the migmatites (Scott, 1987).
