Geology Comments

Sep 24, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Midcontinent Rift represents an aborted or failed rift resulting from an upwelling mantle plume during Mesoproterozoic time at ~1.1 Ga. The rift is characterized by a large volume of igneous material which includes the tholeiitic volcanic rocks and related rhyolite and granophyre of the Keweenawan Supergroup, mafic-ultramafic sills and intrusions of the Duluth Complex and alkaline and carbonatite intrusions of Ontario. Within the Superior Province, numerous alkaline and carbonatitic rocks are distributed along the Trans-Superior Tectonic Zone (TSTZ). Four alkaline rock carbonatite complexes have been identified along this Zone: Coldwell, Chipman, Killala Lake and Prairie Lake. The Coldwell Complex is one of the largest alkaline complexes in the world with an area of ~490 km2 and is composed of subalkaline and alkaline gabbro, ferroaugite syenite, diverse contaminated syenites, ferroaugite syenite and A-type quartz syenites. The Killala complex consists of troctolite, gabbro, monzonite, syenite, nepheline monzonite-syenite and mafic-syenite dykes. Both the Coldwell Complex and the Killala Lake complex do not contain carbonatites, whereas Chipman Lake and Prairie Lake complexes do contain carbonatites (AFRI 20000015102).

Lithology Comments

Sep 24, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Good Hope Property claims surround the Prairie Lake Comlex, but the center of the Prairie Lake Complex is not included in the Property. The Prairie Lake Complex is circular with an approximate surface area of 8.8 km2 and is topographically located on a circular hill surrounded by low lying marshy ground. The Prairie Lake Complex corresponds to an aeromagnetic high anomaly. The Good Hope Property consists of paragneiss and metasedimentary bedrock and alkali granite, ijolite and carbonatite. The alkali granite shows variable degrees of fenitization and brecciation. Alkali granite breccia has carbonatite veins/ matrix between the clasts. Three types of carbonatite are found on the property: calciocarbonatite, ferrocarbonatite and silicocarbonatite (AFRI 20000015102).

Mineralization Comments

Sep 24, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The property hosts niobium mineralization in pyrochlore. The Nb mineralization differs from that in the Prairie Lake Complex in that it is low in Th and U contents. Mapping conducted by Plato in 2017 led to the discovery of a 700 m long NE-trending alkali granite breccia with carbonatite matrix pointing towards Prairie Lake and the discovery of a 1.8 km long NW-trending ijolite characterized by a magnetic high anomaly. Samples collected by Plato in 2017 assayed between 112 and 764 ppm Mb and 0.11-5.25% P2O5 (AFRI 20000015102). In 2015, MDN Inc. collected samples from the same outcrop and pit area and returned assays of 258-740 ppm Nb. R. Wahl collected a sample that assayed 0.906% Nb2O5 and 9.89% P2O5 (AFRI 20000014693).
