Mineralization Comments

07/26/2019 (T Pettigrew) - This occurrence is located within a narrow shear zone in an east-trending, lenticular gabbro body intruding Quetico wackes in west-central Ware Township. It was first documented as mining claim 163T by Roland (1887). Values of up to $183 gold to the ton (gold at $20 per ounce, D. Romani, Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, personal communication, 1994) and $25 silver to the ton (silver at $1 per ounce) were reported from samples of sheared gabbro hosting finely disseminated pyrite (Roland 1887). The mineralization is associated with a 40 to 50 cm wide network of weakly brecciated pre- to syndeformational quartz veins within the shear zone. Alteration consists of moderate to intense hematization and carbonatization. Assay results of grab samples taken by OGS staff of the sheared and brecciated quartz veins returned values of less than or equal to 5 ppb Au (Brown, 1995). Neither Canadian Nickel nor Inco found any mineralization of interest. The best assay from Inco’s sampling program was 110 ppb Au; the rest were 20 ppb or less (Assessment reports 52A11SW0051 and 52A11SW0054). Sampling done in 2014 returned values of 0.026 ppm Au (Assessment report 20000008163).
