Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Quetico

Terrane: Quetico Basin

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Dec 17, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Within the project area, the main rock-types are Archean-age granitoid and metasedimentary rocks of the Quetico Terrane, and Meso-Proterozoic-age Keweenawan Supergroup mafic to ultramafic intrusive rocks and related intermediate to mafic hybrid intrusive rocks of the Mid-continent Rift (MCR). The MCR-related intrusive rocks within are considered to be part of the TBN Intrusive Complex which includes: the Current Lake, Steepledge Lake, Lone Island Lake, and 025 intrusions, all of which exhibit PGE-Cu-Ni mineralization to some extent. The Current Lake, Steepledge Lake, and Lone Island Lake intrusions appear to be connected by the diffuse East West Complex (EWC) which consists of a series of moderately-dipping hybrid sills and dykes that are confined to the Escape Lake Fault Zone which is part of the Quetico Fault system. To date significant quantities of mineralization have only been identified within the Current Lake and Steepledge Lake intrusions. The Current Lake PGE-Cu-Ni Deposit is hosted within the Current Lake Intrusion and the Escape Lake and Steepledge Lake mineralized zones are hosted by the Steepledge Lake Intrusion (Clark, 2020).

Mineralization Comments

Dec 17, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Drillhole 08CL0001 intersected minor Cu-Ni-PGE mineralization in a mafic to ultramafic intrusive host rock, with best mineralized interval: 10.9 m @ 2.35 g/t Pt+Pd+Au, 0.46% Cu, 0.24% Ni from 362.5 m including 3.0 m @ 4.95 g/t Pt+Pd+Au, 0.92% Cu, 0.39% Ni from 368.9 m. Mafic to ultramafic intrusive rocks were intersected from 170 m to 404 m. The top 99 m of the intrusive is an olivine gabbro, very altered in the top of the unit, and the lower 135 m is a peridotite with minor pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite mineralization (Tables 1-4). Best sulfide content occurs between 363.5 m and 372 m with 8.5 m containing 8% magmatic pyrrhotite and minor chalcopyrite (Assessment report 20000003451). The Escape Lake Zone was discovered by Rio in early 2008 and comprises an ~350m long, poorly drill defined, possibly tabular shaped high-grade Pt-Pd zone. This zone represents the furthest south zone of identified mineralization in the Steepledge area and is situated proximal to the east trending Escape Lake fault. The Escape Lake zone contains high-grade Pt-Pd mineralization and is hosted within a peridotite unit similar to that of mineralization in the Current Lake area. Mineralization mainly consists of finely disseminated to net textured sulphides ranging from a few percent to >25% and occurs interstitial to the gangue. DDH 11CL0005 returned 0.06 g/t Au, 0.61 g/t Pt, 0.76 g/t Pd, 0.28% Cu, and 0.19% Ni over 162.32 m including up to 0.46 g/t Au, 5.33 g/t Pt, 6.86 g/t Pd, 2.36% Cu, and 0.69% Ni over 6.75 m. DDH 11CL0008 returned 0.25 g/t Au, 2.64 g/t Pt, 3.31 g/t Pd, 1.13% Cu, and 0.41% Ni over 39.4 m including 0.62 g/t Au, 6.46 g/t Pt, 7.84 g/t Pd, 2.68% Cu, and 0.74% Ni over 8.33 m (Clark, 2020). Hole ELR20-028 intersected 83.3 m of 1.91 g/t Pd, 1.47 g/t Pt, 0.73% Cu and 0.40% Ni from 350.8-434.1m downhole. A higher-grade intercept included within this interval returned 21.7 m of 3.70 g/t Pd, 2.69 g/t Pt, 1.40% Cu and 0.89% Ni from 398.1-419.8m downhole. Hole ELR20-029 intersected 20 m of 1.43 g/t Pd, 1.17 g/t Pt, 0.48% Cu and 0.30% Ni from 363.9-383.9 m downhole located 200 m northwest of the original discovery area. Hole ELR20-032 intersected 8.9 m of 3.88 g/ Pd, 2.77 g/t Pt, 1.32% Cu and 0.70% Ni from 395.1-404.0 m downhole. This intercept was drilled on the southeastern edge of the Escape Lake deposit (Clean Air Metals Dec 7, 2020 press release).
