Exploration History

1969: Ashland oil and Elgin Petroleum completed 6 diamond drill holes. 1981: Selco Exploration Company completed two drill holes as part of a regional diamond exploration program. 1988: Ron Sage of the OGS re-sampled old core from the site and wrote up a report. 2012: G. Peacock staked the property and re-sampled old core from the site. 2020: VR Resources completed an airborne geophysical survey (VTEM). 2020-2021: VR Resources completed 9 diamond drill holes totaling 9,575m, and assaying and analyses. 2022: VR Resources completed a further 5 diamond drill holes totaling 1,437m. 2023: VR Resources completed 3 diamond drill holes and bulk sampling of the mineralized intersection in hole 013. The bulk sample was sent for mineralogical, beneficiation and metallurgical study.

Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Moose River Basin

Geology Comments

Sep 08, 2022 (Sheree Hinz) - The complex was emplaced along the regional-scale tectonic suture between two sub-provinces of the Archean Superior Craton; the volcanic-dominated Wabigoon province to the north, and the sediment-dominated Quetico province to the south. The H-K property covers a well defined, high intensity magnetic complex approximately 5x5 kilometers in size and evident on regional-scale Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) aeromagnetic maps.

Lithology Comments

Sep 08, 2022 (Sheree Hinz) - Hecla-Kilmer is a large, polyphase Proterozoic alkaline intrusive complex with carbonatite approximately 4 – 6 km’s across. The core of the complex is mostly nepheline syenite and phonolite, surrounded by a myriad of ultra-basic, alkaline and carbonatite intrusive phases including several porphyritic phases, phoscorite, sovite, ijolite, syenite and olivine gabbro.

Mineralization Comments

Sep 08, 2022 (Sheree Hinz) - Drilling done by VR Resources in 2020 (20000019943) identified four different mineralization styles present: 1. REE + Nb in veined and brecciated carbonatite dykes (DDH HK21-005 gave values of 3m at 1.70% TREO, 4m at 0.42% Nb205); 2. lithium mineralization in hydrothermal breccia (DDH HK20-002 gave values of 23.4m at 427ppm Li2O); 3. copper sulfide in veinlets with iron and silica; 4. elevated hydrothermal gold related to porphyry dykes. More drilling intersections include 243 m at 1.01 % TREO within 290 m @ 0.91 % TREO, starting at bedrock surface, and including 39 m at 2.01 % TREO (VR Resources Press Release, July 21, 2022). Five diamond drill holes totaling 1,437m was completed by VR Resources in Fall 2022. Drill Hole HK22-020 gave returns of 212 m of continuous mineralization at 0.7% total rare earth oxide (TREO) with 17% permanent magnet rare earth oxides (PMREO). One meter of which sampled up to 2.7% TREO with 28.5% PMREO, and including 48 m at 1.0 % TREO with 19% PMREO at the end of the hole, and open to depth. The 212 meter intersection in Hole HK22-020 is on structure, along-strike to the southeast of the 25.5 m at 1.131% TREO with 18% PMREO intersected in Hole HK22-015. PMREO is the sum of high value rare earth oxides used in permanent magnet motors and turbines used in electric vehicles and wind turbines (Pr2O3 + Nd203 + Tb2O3 + Dy2O3). Bulk sampling of an intersection in Hole 013 in 2023 was sent for mineralogical, beneficiation and metallurgical study. Initial results indicate that 80% of REEs are contained within the phosphate mineral apatite, with the remainder hosted in monazite, a phosphate, and parisite-synchysite, fluorocarbonates, which themselves occur most commonly as fine grained inclusions in apatite.
