Mineralization Comments

Jan 29, 2021 (Sheree Hinz) - Several different varieties of dolomite are present in the quarry. The uppermost layer consists of thinly bedded, soft, buff to dove-coloured, very fine-grained dolomite in blocky beds 1 to 6 inches thick. Below this very fine-grained, harder, brown dolomite mottled with buff markings and in beds, 3 to 6 inches thick is found. This is separated from the below stratigraphy by a 1-inch shale seam. Down stratigraphy very fine-grained, rather hard, banded, dark brown dolomite (part of which is mottled) is found. Finally, found at the bottom of the sequence is a bluish grey, shaly dolomite that gives off an odour of petroleum when hit with a hammer. This is apparently the top of the Camillus shale.
