Lithology Comments

Feb 21, 2013 (A Wilson) - Fifteen feet of sandstone in beds ranging from 2 to 6 feet were exposed. The stone was soft and rapidly disintegrated. The decomposed material was screened and washed for use in steel moulds and acid hearth work. The decomposed material ran 99% silica. The stone is buff to grey, medium-grained, thin to thick bedded, and in places rusty stained. Because of a variable content of calcium and magnesium carbonates up to about 6 percent, acting as a natural cement for the subrounded quartz grains, the stone varies from compact to friable.
