Lithology Comments

May 27, 2022 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Thorold Quarry exposes 9.78 m of section: 0.88 m from the Rochester Formation, 3.0 m from the Decew Formation, and 5.9m from the Gasport Member of the Lockport Formation. The Rochester Formation is typically an interbedded dolomitic shale and shaly dolostone, whereas the Decew is a fine-crystal line, irregular-bedded, fossiliferous dolostone. The Gasport Member is a massive-bedded fossiliferous dolostone. The thickness of the Decew Formation is variable and ranges from 0.0 to 3.0 m along the quarry face (Derry et al., 1989).
