Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (M Barua) - The quarry is of considerable geological significance as it is the most southerly exposure of the reefal, irregular-bedded to massive Amabel Formation into well-bedded Lockport Formation to the south in the Niagara Penisula. The quarry exposes 15.65 m of Middle Silurian section consisting of 2 m of Reynales Fm dolostone, followed by 1.2 m of Irondequoit Fm dolostone, overlain by 0.45 m of shaly dolostone and shale of Rochester Fm and finally by 12 m ( 3 units) of Amabel Fm. Irondequoit Limestone and Rochester Shale have their most northern outcrop at this location. They seems to pinch out against Amabel Dolomite which rests directly on Reynales Dolomite north of here.
