Access Description: On the N side of Hwy 2, on the E outskirts of Brockville.



Exploration History

Circa1960 : operated in 1960 by Permanent Transit-Mix Concrete Ltd (operated previously by Brockville Crushed Stone). Later operated by Permanent Concrete Ltd, a division of Lafarge Canada, and licenced for 77 ha. The quarry (1989) is operated on 3 lifts of 6 m, 8.5 m and 6.5 m. The third lift is in a very hard dolomitic sandstone and is excavated solely to produce HL3 modified stone, a top quality skid-resistant aggregate used on highways with a high volume of traffic (of limited supply). Also produced are : armour stone, gabion stone (3-6 inches), granular A, B and C, septic 11/4 in clear, 3/4 in concrete stone, 3/8 in chips and 1/4 in dust.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Section LQ BR-3 (1991) describes the section in the quarry. Oxford and March Formation are exposed in a 21.0 m deep quarry (1989) - sandy dolostones and dolostones of the March Formation are overlain by dolostone of the Oxford; the contact being just below the top of the lowest lift. Overburden is about 3-5 m thick over an irregular bedrock surface.
