Pre-1912 : operating in 1912 but not 1938 - dimension stone used as coursing stone, sills, etc, with the rock face only. The stone is too hard for fine dressing. This was said to be a better grade of stone than that from other quarries in this area. It was typical of the better type of Beekmantown stone from the lakefront. The Dyer Quarry may be on the site of the Warren (Dibblee) Quarry - see ' Warren' MDI31B12SE00005. The James Perry quarry was close to, and similar in type to, the Dyer quarry's S opening. Bradfield's quarry was also close by but in a softer stone.
Province: Paleozoic and Mesozoic Basins
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - March Formation (Beekmantown) magnesian limestone in beds up to 22 inches thick, but very variable. All units appear to be ' more or less sandy and argillaceous, and some strata are very sandy ' (1938). Sample # 52 (1912) is described as brown-grey, becoming lighter on weathering with a mottled appearance of a rather dirty yellow tint.
