Point Location Description: Symbol ' 11 ' about 2.2 km SE of Lyn.
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: On the S side of a hill which runs about E-W and stands 60-70 ft above the neighbouring valley.
Pre 1912 : a quarry, 100 x 50 ft and 10 ft deep. The stone has been used for local building and in the Parliament Buildings, Ottawa. It was not in production in 1912.
Province: Paleozoic and Mesozoic Basins
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - A pure white-grey sandstone with a few brown spots; can be a uniform grey when selected and dressed. The beds are very thick but fractured. The unit is about 100 ft wide and good for 200 yds, but passes into a conglomerate. Quartzite caps the hill. Location Le-17 in OFR 5265 refers to this quarry. Sample le-6 in OFR 5265 refers to a 15-18 m face of massive sandstone, interbedded with conglomerate and grading into a red, coarse quartzite conglomerate. Presumably, this is also from the immediate area.
