Point Location Description: Point just N of Spencerville.
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: Local quarrying of very limited extent in the area around Spencerville.
In the neighbourhood of Spencerville, siliceous, dolomitic limestone is exposed. Although it shows potential for quarrying and has been tested (1917) and sampled (1938) only local quarrying (pre 1938) in several separate places appears to have been carried out - to provide building stone for local use.
Province: Paleozoic and Mesozoic Basins
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - In 1917 the limestone is described as sileceous and rather soft dolomite. It was suggested, however, that good quarry faces could be developed on this lot. In 1938 it is described as steel grey, hard and fine-grained (sample #197 was taken just N of the village). This is flat-lying Oxford (Beekmantown) Formation.
