Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Sample (# 721) taken from an area of clay that is about 1 square mile in extent. There is another, smaller, patch of clay about 1 1/2 ml S of this one, not far S of Roebuck. These 2 patches of clay are the only ones for many miles around Spencerville. The sample represents only about 3 ft in depth from the surface. This clay works up very well, not being too stiff when wet. It burns to a deep red colour and hard body. It required addition of about 25 % sand (1922).
