Lithology Comments

Sep 17, 2015 (A Wilson) - The March Formation outcrops in the northwestern and southwestern corners, forming low, pavement-like exposures. Sections greater than 2 m thick are rare in the present map area. The unit consists of interbedded light to medium grey, light to medium brown, light to medium brown-gray and white sandstone, dolostone, dolomitic sandstone and sandy dolostone that weather pale brown, pale grey and buff; and occur in beds 5 to 60 cm thick. The dolostone and sandy dolostone are generally fine- to medium-crystalline, and the sandstone is fine to medium grained with rare coarser grains. The dolostone beds may weather locally with a deep green stain and vugs up to 10 cm in diameter filled with coarsely crystalline lpink calcite are common. The thickness of the formation was estimated to be 7.5 to 9 m in thickness. The section of the March Formation outcropping at this site was 1.8 m in thickness.
