Apr 20, 2023 (Mateo Dorado-Troughton) - A horizon bearing nodular black chert can be found within the Bobcaygeon formation at the west end of the roadcut. This chert is known as Lower Bobcaygeon chert or as Marmora chert.

Site Visit Information

Date: Apr 19, 2023

Geologist: Mateo Dorado-Troughton

Notes: Roadcut ANSI site visit in collaboration with MTO road scaling. Samples were collected of Bobcaygeon formation black chert nodules and tabulate coral fossils. The Marmora west road cut shows a 20m section of Upper and Middle Member Gull River formation overlain by 0.6m of the Lower Member of the Bobcaygeon Formation. This section is reported to have a variety of sedimentary and biogenic structures such as mudcracks, "birds-eyes", intraclasts, burrows and discontinuity surfaces.
