Point Location Description: Precise, Shaft Fl, Ba just west of property symbol 21 south of Moira Lake.

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: Drive 5.6 km south from 4 corners intersection in Madoc. Turn left and drive 2.25 km. Follow track on right for 400m. Turn to left and follow edge of swamp for 70m.



Exploration History

1917: Fluorspar discovered by Stephen Wellington on the Howard farm. 1918: Wellington and Munro opened the deposit and continued operations in 1920 after an option to Canadian Industrial Minerals Limited was not exercised. The vein was mined by open-cuts and 2 25-foot shafts were sunk. 1929: W.H. Johnston deepened the shafts. 1940: Reliance Fluorspar Mining Syndicate optioned the property from Fred Hill. 1940, 1941: Considerable drifting and stoping. 1942: Wood Land Mineral Company operated the mine. 1944: Fluoroc Mines Limited deepened the shaft and did drifting. Total production of about 2,500 tons of ore has been recorded.
