Early 1880's: opened as a phosphate mine by T. Holland. Subsequently mined for phosphate and mica by Smith and Lacey. The mine was later worked by Webster and Company. In April 1910 the Birch Lake Mining Syndicate took over the property and pumped out the main pit which was 100 feet long. Another pit was sunk to 110 feet on a parallel lead. In 1912 and 1913, nine tons of mica valued at $3,460 were produced. (MRC 6, p33-34 and MRC 8, p36).
