Lithology Comments

Feb 22, 2012 (A Wilson) - Gadolinite and euxenite are found in a pegmatite dike cutting between metamorphic pyroxenite and gneissic granite. The dike is zoned with masses of quartz and microcline, rarely as much as 10 inches in diameter, either separately or as intergrowths of the two in the centre. These are flanked by zones carrying, plagioclase, and small rusty zones in which small crystals of euxenite, allanite and gadolinte occur sparsely. Greenish flakes of mica and some pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite occur sporadically through the outer zones of the dike.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 22, 2012 (A Wilson) - A gadolinite crystal collected from this site weighed about ¼ of a pound. A partial chemical analysis of the crystal returned 0.14% ThO2, 2.85% (Ce, La, Di)2O3 and 46.47% (Yt, Er)2 O3.

Feb 22, 2012 (D Laidlaw) - A zoned pegmatite 30 feet wide contains small amounts of euxenite, allanite and gadolinite.
