Date: Jan 27, 2005

Geologist: C Papertzian

Notes: In 1964, this deposit consised of 5 small quarry openings on the Sloan farm lot 11, con 6, Storrington township, operated by Kingston Quarries Ltd. Quarry faces range from 3 to 10 feet high. Cross bedding is common and two of the quarries are in cross bedded sections which dip 10 to 20 degrees east. The stone is a medium to thin bedded buff and salmon pink to red Potsdam sandstone. It is know as 'Kingston Hue'. Tree-like cylindrical sandstone concretionary structures up to three feet in diameter may be seen at this locality (D.F. Hewitt, 1964, ref no. 4001). These structures have been debated for over a century with various authors suggesting that they were concretions, potholes, or dewatering structures. Rideauview Contracts Ltd. now operates these quarries. The property was visited on August 17, 2004. For further on this visit, see OFR6152.
