Lithology Comments

Feb 20, 2013 (A Wilson) - The stone is medium-grained, even-bedded grey Potsdam sandstone in beds 2 to 6 inches thick. The stone is mottled with black carbonaceous spots and has some rusty iron stains. The trade name is Rustic Hue. The stone has irregular bedding, but the almost complete absence of joints outweighs this objection and makes the quarrying of large blocks relatively easy.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 20, 2013 (A Wilson) - The three quarries at this site produced building stone for the Kingston area as well as a cement sand. The building stone was quarried by hand with occasional drilling.
