Sep 15, 2015 (A Wilson) - Nepean sandstone has been used extensively for building in the district. No large quarries were opened, but the many flat sandstone ledges and escarpments provided a readily accessible supply of stone. At the quarry only about 1 acre of valuable stone appears. This deposit consists of a single solid bed 3 ft 9 inches in depth. Blocks the entire thickness of the bed and of any desired dimension can be quarried.
Sep 15, 2015 (A Wilson) - The stone is pure white except for the occasional brown spots. It is comparatively fine in grain. The stone contains 97.10% SiO2, 0.18% Fe2O3, 0.81% Al2O3, 0.19% MgO and 0.25% CaO.
