Nov 20, 2013 (A Wilson) - The sandstone is fine-grained, buff to red in colour and is moderately hard. The conglomerate is a quartz pebble conglomerate containing 1-5 cm quartz pebbles in a siliceous matrix. Sandstone blocks for the construction of the locks at Jones Falls on the Rideau Canal were taken from this site and two churches in Elgin were also built from this stone.

Nov 20, 2013 (A Wilson) - A grab sample collected by the OGS in 1978 assayed: 99.95% SiO2, 0.69% Fe2O3, 0.33% Al2O3, 0.015% MgO and 0.011% CaO. DDH 1e-B was completed by MNR in 1978. The sandstone returned analyses ranging from: 88.53-95.46% SiO2, 0.30-0.53% Fe2O3, 1.31-1.96% Al2O3, 0.11-0.22% MgO and 3.05-8.77% CaO
