Access Description: Just south of SW end of Opinicon Lake.



Exploration History

Opinicon or Rock Lake Mine: James Bell of Arnprior mined 500 tons of phosphate in 1888 and 1889. Kingston Phosphate Company mined the property in 1891 and 1892. An inclined pit 75 feet long was sunk on a 45 degree incline to 255 feet. A second pit 40 feet deep measured 20 by 30 feet, widening as it went down. About 1500 tons of phosphate was produced (MRC 6, p41).
