Exploration History

Circa 1890 to 1910, several generations of exploration and exploitation of mica-apatite resources by means of pits and shafts. The deepest observed pit by Harding in 1944. was 7.6 m deep inclined shaft-like pit. Mica-apatite-pyroxene-calcite veins and lenses up to 1.2 m wide, some containing mica books up to 15 cm in size were mined for mica and phosphate sources, (AR Vol 56 Pt 6).
