Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - This grainite is located in the McLean Pluton. The rock is a very fresh massive pink quartz monzonite. The quartz, plagioclase and k-spars all exhibit phenocrysts in uniform concentrations. A small amount of hematite staining was observed on joint faces. The outcrop in the vicinity of the road is flat with limited jointing. Exfoliation is severe in some areas. The weathered surface is light pink to grey and is weathered to approximately 2 to 3 mm. Grain size is medium to coarse and is uniform. The texture is massive and uniform. Joints strike at approximately 105 degrees and are spaced 1 to 3 meteres apart.

Site Visit Information

Date: Aug 30, 2002

Geologist: C Papertzian

Notes: This site was visited on July 23, 2002. The outcrop was massive and extensive. The location of the test block was very evident. This site requires more detailed mapping to determine where the best location for a much larger test block could be located.
