Point Location Description: Shaft 460 feet deep just north of property symbol 10.

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: Drive 2.5 km west of Hwy 37 on Hwy 7 then 8.7 km north on Co. Rd. 20 from Hwy 7 to Queensborough (General Store). 1 km west of Queensborough on County Rd. 20, then 3.4 km south on side road. Stop at corner. Walk north along western edge of field. Continue north into bush for 2-3 minutes and then turn west and follow the red mud flats (unvegetated) to the west and then to the north and onto the waste piles.



Exploration History

1906: property was discovered by Mr. Stephen Wellington and several pits and trenches were opened. 1908: Shafts No. 1 and No. 2 were sunk and one carload of ore was shipped. 1909: Canadian Pyrite Syndicate purchased the property. One shaft was excavated to a depth of 50 ft with a drift at that level, the other shaft was 20 feet deep. Five hundred tons of ore was shipped. 1910: Canadian Sulphur Ore Company purchased the property. An unspecified amount of ore was shipped during the summer. 1912: Seymour Power Company supplied power to the mine. 1913: Pits Nos. 3 and 4 were excavated and the No. 3 shaft was opened to a depth of 120 feet, with levels at 50 and 120 feet. Approximately 100 feet of drifting was completed at the 120 foot level. 1919: Mine closed, No. 3 shaft was 460 feet deep and had 6 developed levels (OFR 5548, p103).
