Access Description: S of the bridge across the Black River on the Madoc-Actinolite road. The best outcrop is a large protruding rock opposite the S point of an island, 1/4 ml S of the bridge.
Mineral location - garnet. Suggested as a mining possibility for abrasives in 1927 - easy to concentrate, though the garnets might be too dark in colour. The pure white muscovite could possibly have been saved as a by-product.
Province: Grenville
Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Dark brown-black, well-formed garnets occur in a mica-hornblende schist. These schists can be traced for about 1/2 ml in a band that is about 100 ft across. The zone with the largest crystals (about cherry size) is 15 ft wide and near the N contact between schists and micaceous argillites. Syenite gneiss lies to the S.
