Exploration History

Unknown date : a 12 x 12 ft shaft (water-filled) sunk on a gold-bearing vein, and a shallow trench 90 ft S, on strike. 1981 : C.R. Young drilled 3 holes (1,000 ft). 1987 : Gateford Resources Inc sampled the shaft collar, optioned the property and drilled 12 holes (6,648.8 ft / 2,026.6 m). 1988 : Gateford drilled 21 holes at 75 ft centres; 19 of these holes tested the quartz vein from surface to 400 ft. A total of 13,505 ft / 4,116.4 m in 33 holes. This delineated an ore lens 135 ft / 41 m long and 375 ft / 114.3 m deep with 0.23 oz/t (7.8 g/t) Au across an average width of 7.3 ft (2.23 m), for an undiluted tonnage of 29,132 tons. 1992 : Spruce Ridge Resources Ltd entered an option (with Young) and joint venture agreement with Lakefield Minerals Ltd. They drilled 3 holes - 2,768 ft / 844 m to 510-675 ft / 156-206 m depths - in 1992. This suggested that the mineralization continues at depth.

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The property lies at the contact between Tudor metavolcanics and the Elzevir Granite. The gold-bearing quartz vein, up to 11 ft wide, is hosted in mica schist and occurs at the centre of a steeply W-dipping deformation zone. This is cut by a quartz feldspar porphyry dyke swarm, and, at their intersection, the quartz vein width and Au values diminish. Free gold is associated with galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, pyrite and silver.
