Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - OGS sampling in a marble belt, 150-200 m wide at this point and bordered by metasediments. The marble is white, fine-medium-grained with minor impurities. To the S of this area are 2 former marble workings held by Vermont Marble : Fardom Marble Quarry which shipped blocks and building stone and is located on the W side of the Skoomatta River, 1 km S of Actinolite. A second working is located 2 km S of Actinolite on the E side of the river. At the Fardom Quarry mafic blocks and bands locally disrupt the marble. Samples 515 to 518 and 710 to 716 were taken from this belt and have high CaO contents (> 54 wt %) with < 2 wt % SiO2. This belt has a high potential for industrial filler-type marble.
