Exploration History

1989: The mineral rights to much of this area were held by Vermont Marble. They had 2 holdings 1989 in the area - one is 2 km S of Actinolite and the other is 1.5 km E of the Hwy 37 turnoff, along Hwy 7. Just S of Hwy 7, at the E edge of the map area, is an old marble showing with 2 test sample locations from previous exploration. 2000s: Senator Stone Supply Ltd operated the quarry, producing crushed stone. 2023: Currently the quarry is active with a quarrying permit (#20308) for Z. Suder and seems to be producing building/decorative stone.

Geology

Province: Grenville

Subprovince: Central Metasedimentary Belt

Terrane: Mazinaw

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - A large area of good calcitic marble lies between metasediments (to the N) and granite (to the S) in a narrow belt that widens to the E. Samples 710, 711, 731 and 733 are from this area. The entire belt has a high potential for industrial filler-type marble.
