Exploration History

Pre 1898: A 30-foot shaft was sunk. Approximately 300 tons of ore was mined. 1980: Bob Ross completed prospecting and sampling. 1981: R.J. Ross completed 150 feet of diamond drilling. 1987: Harwin Exploration and Development Inc. completed 8 diamond drill holes totaling 2,599 ft., bedrock mapping, soil sampling, stripping, trenching, and a ground geophysical survey (gradiometric, magnetometer).

Lithology Comments

Nov 23, 2020 (Sheree Hinz) - The occurrence is located within siliceous and sericitic schists near the contact with a narrow band of amphibolite-altered mafic metavolcanics, which is flanked to the south by carbonate metasediments. The schists contain abundant disseminated to massive sulphides, predominantly pyrite and pyrrhotite.

Mineralization Comments

Nov 23, 2020 (Sheree Hinz) - In 1897 approximately 300 tons of ore was mined from open-cuts. Quartz veins found in diamond drill holes contain pyrite, sphalerite, and visible gold. In 1987, samples of quartz vein and wall rock gave assays of 62 and 48 ppb Au, respectively. Two consecutive 3 ft wide chip samples across quartz veins and wall rock in the shaft, taken in 1981, returned assays of 0.005 and 0.015 oz Au/ton (OFR5808, p. 108).
